Let me start off by saying I've tried to write this book nine times. I don't mean nine drafts; I mean started over and was defeated nine times. In the words of my earthly idol, Erykah Badu, I'm sensitive about my sh*t. With the covers of God Don't Like Ugly and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings staring at me from the bookshelf across the room, I can feel an anxious twitch in my right eye. Comparing myself to the brilliant women before me, why would someone want to read a memoir about me? This is personal. I'm giving you a magnifying glass and asking you to zoom in and examine life through my eyes in a way that is far from conventional. Regardless, I'm committed. Even if it takes me ten, eleven or fifty-leven times of starting over. If my journey can help the next person, then it's worth it.
