This volume contains the official rules of the South Carolina Society, an organization established in Charleston in 1736 and formally chartered in 1751. The rules provide a fascinating glimpse into the social structures and concerns of the elite in colonial South Carolina. Documenting the society's bylaws, membership guidelines, and objectives, this book offers valuable primary source material for researchers and anyone interested in the history of social organizations and the early American South.
Rules Of The South Carolina Society serves as a historical record of a significant institution in Charleston, illustrating the priorities and values of its members during a formative period in American history.
