Ruger's Art Museum of Bones, Beauty, and Human Confusion: A Dog's Comic Guide to Great Art is a funny illustrated art book told from the point of view of Ruger, a dog who wanders through the world's great paintings and decides that art history has overlooked the obvious: bones, snacks, naps, loyalty, puddles, squirrels, and staying close to the people you love.
With the confidence of a museum critic and the priorities of a hungry dog, Ruger reviews famous paintings, serious portraits, dramatic battles, gloomy philosophers, elegant ladies, grand landscapes, and confused humans. He asks the questions art historians forgot: Where is the bacon? Why does everyone look so worried? Who left the table unguarded? And why do humans make beauty so complicated?
Part parody, part philosophy, and part dog wisdom, the book turns the museum into a comic tour of human foolishness and canine truth. The final section, Ruger's First Exhibition, gives Ruger his own masterpieces about desire, joy, wisdom, purpose, loyalty, civilization, liberty, and love.
By the end, Ruger teaches the museum the simplest truth of all:
Humans call it art. Dogs call it staying close.
