On an island far from the living and where only the dead can reach, Rose keeps a simple life as a seasoned journalist for her town's newspaper. She is given an opportunity to write a story that covers a man named David and his friends: the last arrivals nearly twenty years ago.
David hides alone in a house on an isle isolated from everyone - obsessing over a closet door that cannot be opened. His friends live in solitude; only keeping in contact with each other. There is a secret being kept between them that could destabilize the existence of the island itself.
As Rose investigates, she begins forgetting pieces of her past life and feeling emotions she has not experienced since she was living. As the weeks pass her condition worsens. She wonders if she should stop pursuing the story, but she can't - she wants to know the truth. But the truth could destroy her and the entire island with it.
