The war as experienced by Pyotr Shaka's troops, the men and now also women of Rikugun, the Imperial Army. For experimental, all-female Women's Combat Brigades have arrived on Amasia. Across the black from the Alliance, the fighters of the Imperium are also locked in endless war, always on the attack, pushed by vain generals for a regime that hardly values their lives. Yet, they are not nameless or faceless or merely remorseless and cruel enemies of the Alliance. They are very human indeed. They also love, hate, suffer and endure. Why do they fight for Pyotr? What do they want from this war? And most important of all, can they win? Follows the story of young Tedi who's loyal Rikugun, and her remarkably beautiful CO Leyla Celik, fighting across the varying climate zones and ecologies of the supercontinent world Amasia. Then a young poet arrives. Can his sensibilities and moral ambitions survive future total war? Or will he succumb to the spirit of the Kali Age? Kali Altsoba is the pen name of the military historian Cathal J. Nolan, winner of the Gilder Lehrman Prize for Military History and the Distinguished Book Award from War on the Rocks. His books have been feature reviewed in major military and history journals and in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and The National. His military fiction starts with the Orion War series. Forthcoming is White Sails, which will follow Jan and Zofia and the Wreckers offworld on commando raids and into naval and marine battles, even as the fight between mass armies continues on Amasia and dozens more invaded and contested worlds.
