Rhesus is a play written by the ancient Greek playwright Euripides. The play is set during the Trojan War and focuses on the character of Rhesus, a Thracian king who has joined the Trojan side. The play begins with the arrival of Rhesus and his army to the Trojan camp, where they are met by Hector, the Trojan prince. Hector is suspicious of Rhesus and his motives, but Rhesus assures him that he has come to help the Trojans. However, the play takes a twist when it is revealed that Rhesus has been sent by the gods to aid the Greeks, not the Trojans. The Greek gods are angry with the Trojans for not returning their stolen statue, and have sent Rhesus to help the Greeks win the war. The play then follows the conflict between Rhesus and the Trojans, as they try to stop him from helping the Greeks. Rhesus is eventually killed by Odysseus and Diomedes, two Greek warriors who are sent to assassinate him. The play explores themes of betrayal, loyalty, and the role of the gods in human affairs.
