Moving from the roots of cooperation through agricultural mechanization, the Industrial Revolution, and Industry 4.0, Michele Piano reconstructs the transition from a society dominated by efficiency and fragmentation to a systemic paradigm founded on WE. The narrative brings together more than thirty years of research, teaching, and experimentation: from territory understood as a system and the early Digital Twin concept developed at Celenza Valfortore, to the building conceived as an organism, and finally to the design of intelligent ecosystems.
The book presents Artificial Intelligence not as a replacement for the human being, but as a tool for Augmented Human Intelligence; the Digital Twin as an environment in which we can anticipate before deciding; and ORRSA - Observe, Derive, Replicate, Simplify, Automate - as a method for transforming a vision into verifiable decisions. The obstacles encountered along the way become a laboratory of choices, showing that the quality of the decision-maker can be as decisive as the quality of the technical solution.
The journey leads toward The Ideal World and Mobility 5.0 - Smart Living Ecosystem: not a utopia, but a concrete direction in which homes, villages, businesses, services, energy, mobility, and communities become cells of a single ecosystem. The final metaphor is a ship: we can remain passengers confined within separate compartments, or become a crew capable of choosing the route together. Revolution 5.0 begins precisely with this choice: moving from ME to WE.
