Alex Mercer studies the moment systems begin to fail, when pressure gathers beneath the surface and certainty becomes more dangerous than ignorance.
Then an impossible object appears above the Pacific.
The world calls it artificial intelligence because that explanation is frightening enough to believe and familiar enough to survive. Governments move to contain it. Markets adapt. Public fear hardens into narrative. But Alex sees a deeper pattern forming beneath the official one.
Something below the ocean has been hidden for longer than human history remembers. Something above it is learning too quickly. Between them stands a civilization desperate to remain in control, an intelligence built to reduce uncertainty, and one man whose greatest value may be his refusal to understand too soon.
As the hidden structure beneath the sea becomes impossible to ignore, Alex is pulled into a convergence no system can fully model. Humanity has been seen. The question is whether being seen will save it, or expose it to a judgment it is not ready to face.
RESET: The Cost of Being Seen is the first book in a speculative science fiction series about artificial intelligence, hidden civilization, ancient cycles, and the cost of recognizing the truth before anyone knows how to survive it.
