Spathi Ansdari, an amnesiac corpse, is resurrected from the void by a grim shaman known as the animal man in the phantasmagoric, apocalyptic plane of Raktogin. She claims to know Spathi and his bygone past but promises to reveal only bits and pieces at a time as long as he follows her. Through bizarre visions and astral projections, however, Spathi discovers other phenomena, including a suspicious ghostly infant and a mysterious force dwelling in his forehead.

As Spathi discerns more clues, he unearths sinister and disturbing machinations deep within the Penterium, a demonic super-empire. With his life and so many others at stake, can Spathi uncover the key to Raktogin's survival? Or is Spathi and everyone else condemned to suffer an emerging, unspeakable darkness capable of obliterating even the heavens?
