Rails tears and blood follows the life of Luigi, a young Italian immigrant who leaves behind his hometown of Moiano for a new life in America. Haunted by memories of his military service in the failed Italian campaign in Abyssinia, Luigi distances himself from the looming call to arms during World War I. In 1920, after years of toil, Luigi decides to return to Italy, carrying with him the silent scars of his experience. Back in Moiano, he attempts to reconcile his past and rebuild his life, forever marked by the bittersweet memories of a land that gave and took so much.
