I never dreamed of becoming a writer. If life had followed the path I imagined, this book would never have existed.
It all began the day my mother left - not left our home, but left this world. In the days that followed, words became the only place where I could still breathe. I wasn't trying to write a story; I was gathering the little pieces of myself that grief had scattered - one memory, one tear, one thought at a time. Each page felt like opening a window in a room that had forgotten what light looked like. When the notebook was full, I closed it gently and placed it in a drawer.
So, one evening, I opened the drawer again. I wasn't continuing a journal anymore. Without realizing it, I was beginning a journey. The pages slowly became The Quiet Place Between Us.
For a long time, I believed this story belonged only to me, until one day, I read it again, and somewhere between those pages, I met a different version of myself: a woman who had finally understood something her heart had been afraid to admit.
For so long, I believed that if my pain became lighter, I would somehow be leaving my mother behind as if grief were the last thread connecting us. I was wrong - love doesn't live inside pain; love learns to bloom beside it.
My daughter, Ioana, reminded me of that every single day. She taught me that smiling is not forgetting, laughing is not betrayal, and living fully does not mean loving less. Sometimes, the people we miss the most return to us in unexpected ways...in the kindness we offer, in the quiet strength we discover, in the love we pass on, and in the light we choose to leave behind.
That is why I decided to share this story. Not because I know how to heal, but because I know what it feels like to search for hope when everything inside you has fallen silent. Perhaps, somewhere in these pages, you'll find a little of your own story too. I wasn't writing a book; I was trying to find my way back to life.
