Horror for readers who want to know why.
Quantum Ghosts: A Strange Phenomena Book is the first book in D.R. Ashford's landmark weird fiction series-ten stories that use quantum mechanics as the framework for supernatural horror.
The premise: consciousness doesn't simply end at death. Under specific conditions, it becomes quantum-entangled with locations, people, or states. It exists in superposition-all possible outcomes at once, unable to collapse into a final state. Unable to rest. Unable to release.
This isn't ghost fiction built on folklore or tradition. It's ghost fiction built on physics.
What readers will find inside:
A woman whose grief keeps her dead husband's consciousness quantum-entangled with her own-and the terrible cost of finally letting him go. A child who shares his body and mind with his stillborn twin, two consciousnesses occupying the same quantum state since before birth. A haunted house where a toxic relationship left a quantum scar so deep it distorts reality for every couple who moves in. A ghost hunter team that pushes their investigation too far and encounters something that isn't a ghost at all-a quantum singularity that erases existence itself.
Ten stories. Ten applications of quantum theory to the darkest question science hasn't answered: what happens to consciousness when the body stops?
Quantum Ghosts will appeal to readers of Ted Chiang, Jeff VanderMeer, and Peter Watts-literary weird fiction that earns its horror through ideas rather than gore. Each story follows the series' foundational promise: the supernatural follows rules, and understanding those rules makes it more terrifying, not less.
D.R. Ashford spent four decades as a technology leader before turning to fiction. He brings the same analytical rigor to quantum horror that he once applied to complex systems-and the result is a debut collection that redefines what ghost stories can be.
Strange Phenomena: Temporal Echoes, the second book in the series, is also available.
