Rosalind Marsh always returned her library books two days early.
Then she died, and Clutchfield did what Clutchfield does best: organized casseroles, attended the memorial, and began deciding what Rosalind must have wanted.
Janice Butterwick prefers records to assumptions.
So when an anonymous casserole arrives labeled per her request, an unidentified photograph appears in the memorial display, and a surprise codicil gives one of Rosalind's former students control of twenty-three years of private tutoring records, Janice starts checking the details.
The problem isn't that anything is obviously false.
It's that everything is just plausible enough.
With Chad and his increasingly alarming folder, a meticulous community-center log, a questionable notarization, and fifteen years of handwritten notes, Janice follows a mystery built from interpretation rather than violence: what Rosalind said, what other people heard, and what someone finally decided she must have meant.
Because in Clutchfield, the truth rarely arrives dramatically.
Sometimes it's sitting in a desk drawer, slightly out of alignment.
Per Her Request is a dry, character-driven small-town cozy mystery about records, good intentions, and the dangerous distance between loving someone and deciding for them.
