Leo Rossi is a loner employed by a mega-corporation in a futuristic city where the information age has changed the way people interact with each other. His solitude is just one symptom of this faceless society, the global network making it easy to communicate but difficult to talk.In his desperation for fulfilment Leo turns to XTC Robotics, a company who manufacture sexual gratification automatons. It is during his first stumbling encounter with such a robot where he meets Joy, a soulless but masterfully crafted pleasure machine who only serves to feed Leo's compulsive nature.Leo quickly realises that Joy has her limitations and she lacks the human qualities that would see her perfection. It is then that he seeks out the eminent Dr Harrison Floyd, a cybernetics genius who in his diminishing health, takes a keen interest in Leo's obsession. When the genial scientist realises that his time is almost at an end, Leo's arrival offers the disillusioned doctor one final chance to ensure a lasting legacy and change the face of the world forever. The Pursuit of Joy is a dark science fiction thriller from the author of Dark Phase and Emissary. It is an atmospheric story about obsession set in a chillingly plausible future world where humanity has lost its way.
