Have you opened your heart to a rescue dog carrying the scars of abuse, neglect, fear, or abandonment?
Do you wonder if they will ever truly trust again?
Will they ever feel safe?
Will they ever discover confidence and happiness?
The Puppy Method: Healing the Abused Dog and Rebuilding Confidence is a compassionate, step-by-step guide designed to help owners understand, support, and rehabilitate dogs who have experienced difficult beginnings in life.
Drawing from years of hands-on experience, real-life rescue stories, and the remarkable journey of Logan-a German Shepherd rescued from Morocco-author Patrick Surbey Bougie shares the lessons, challenges, victories, and insights that helped transform fearful, uncertain dogs into confident and thriving companions.
Inside this book, you'll learn how to:
- Understand the emotional effects of abuse, neglect, and trauma
- Build trust with fearful and anxious dogs
- Recognize body language, stress signals, and fear-based behaviors
- Create a safe environment that supports healing
- Help dogs overcome triggers, setbacks, and confidence challenges
- Introduce new people, dogs, environments, and experiences successfully
- Develop routines that create security and emotional stability
- Build confidence through positive reinforcement and enrichment
- Navigate common challenges such as separation anxiety, reactivity, fear aggression, and resource guarding
- Strengthen the bond between you and your dog for a lifetime
More than a training book, this is a book about compassion, patience, understanding, and second chances.
Whether your dog is a young rescue puppy, an adult dog recovering from trauma, or a senior dog finally experiencing the safety and love they always deserved, this book will help you guide them through the healing process with confidence and kindness.
Because every dog deserves more than survival.
Every dog deserves the opportunity to trust, to heal, to belong, and to thrive.
If you're ready to help your dog move beyond their past and embrace the life they were always meant to have, this book will show you how.
The journey may not always be easy.
But it may become one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
