A Loving Step-by-Step Guide to Raising a Happy, Well-Behaved Dog
Bringing home a puppy is one of life's most exciting moments - but it can also feel overwhelming, exhausting, and confusing. Between potty accidents, sleepless nights, biting, barking, leash pulling, and endless advice from everyone around you, many puppy owners quickly begin asking themselves:
Am I doing this right?
In The Puppy Method, Patrick Surbey Bougie shares a heartfelt, real-world approach to puppy training built on love, patience, consistency, and communication - not fear, punishment, or dominance.
After years of raising and training dogs including Pugs, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, and Rottweilers, Patrick developed a calm and practical training philosophy that focuses on building trust and emotional connection while creating a confident, well-behaved dog.
This book is designed for both first-time puppy owners and experienced dog lovers looking for a gentler, more effective approach to training.
Inside this book, you'll learn:
- How to properly bring your puppy home and create emotional safety
- The truth about puppy sleep schedules and overstimulation
- Step-by-step potty training methods that actually work
- How to introduce a new puppy to existing dogs
- Crate training without fear or anxiety
- Loose-leash walking and calm outdoor behavior
- Reliable recall and name recognition training
- How to teach sit, stay, down, leave it, and off
- Proper puppy socialization and confidence-building
- How to prevent bad habits before they start
- Off-leash foundations built through trust and communication
- Common mistakes owners make - and how to avoid them
You'll also receive:
- Puppy progress charts
- Training timelines
- Daily routine examples
- Reflection pages
- Troubleshooting guidance
- Real-life puppy training advice
Unlike many training books that focus only on obedience, The Puppy Method focuses on building a lifelong bond between you and your dog.
Because training is not just about commands.
It's about trust.
It's about communication.
And it's about creating a dog that feels safe, confident, and deeply connected to you.
Whether you're raising your very first puppy or adding another dog to your family, The Puppy Method will help guide you every step of the way.
Train with patience.
Lead with calmness.
Build trust every single day.
