At the age of twenty two, James Benatar decides to break the monotony of a life filled with comfort. He enlists in the Foreign Legion, hoping to bring some excitement to his dull existence. Nothing leads him to suspect that, from that decision on; he will plunge into supernatural and dangerous adventures.
The story takes place between France and the Sahara, in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, placing Benatar face to face with a powerful rebellion led by a Maghreb sheikh who threatens to behead him, a lost city in the desert inhabited by supernatural beings, a valley where hallucinations born of fear are deadly, and the ghost of a fiancée who demands the fulfillment of a promise of love.
