The Kingdom of Parking-Lot was a land built on relationships, mild confusion, and the occasional enchanted creature wandering through the marketplace asking for directions. Evil plots popped up regularly-usually before breakfast-just to keep everyone from getting bored.
On a bright morning, King Public Parking and Queen Ample Parking were enjoying breakfast on their covered terrace, which was covered mostly to prevent pigeons from joining them uninvited. They were discussing the latest tidings before attending court, where the king traditionally pretended to listen, and the queen actually did.
Holding her husband's hand, Queen Ample sighed dreamily.
Truly, love is in the air.
King Public sniffed loudly.
Really... I do not smell anything.
She rolled her eyes. Very amusing. Good to know that if anything ever happens to our royal fool, you could take over for him.
Exactly! the king said proudly. I've been saying that for years. I'm certain I could give a better performance. I've been practicing falling down stairs.
I was talking about Elswyth and Clarence, she said. They are officially engaged.
Well, it's about time! Those two have had more drama than a Shakespearean play. And that's saying something-Shakespeare never shut up.
As I understand it, he asked for her hand on Christmas Eve, and she happily accepted. They are to be married within a fortnight.
The king leaned forward, eyes narrowing with suspicion.
Why the rush? Has there been some... monkey business? A bun in the oven? A loaf in the proving drawer? A-No, the queen snapped. She would have told me. They simply do not want their wedding to delay Tundra's journey to Halle-Wood.
That does not mean there has not been any hanky-panky, he muttered.
Good grief... Parking! the queen groaned, massaging her temples as though she had been married to him for several centuries.
Join the upcoming festivities in Volume Seven-unless you haven't read the first six, in which case start at Volume One. We'll wait. But read quickly. There's a lot of drama to catch up on.
