Praxis is one of the very few books I've read where the premise of the society/world/universe is so interesting that it engages regardless of the plot. And the plot is a novel and unusual possible human situation, driven by the constraints of what may well come to pass, where traditional space opera is dragged screaming and kicking into a future with brand-new conventions. What Praxis is really (as is all the best SF), is the intro for a never-ending epic. But the evocative set-up is what I look for in speculative literature-and this book serves as a magnificent springboard for the reader's imagination.
