It is a natural tendency of all life forms to avoid pain, to get rid of pain. The efforts we make either postpone pain or give temporary relief and most people are fine with it. If one has a burning desire to totally eradicate pain one searches hard. Such search may lead one to a book like the Practical Samkhya. Samkhya is an ancient Indian philosophy that provides absolute solution to pain resulting in Liberation. Pure Samkhya is Philosophy of Realism and in today's time loosing ground as not many people take to it. Very few practice it in life and fewer are inclined to stick to it. Any books or discussion or teaching of Samkhya becomes either academic or intellectual. Samkhya is one of the six Indian philosophy and its tenets find mention in all the others, proving it to be ancient most. In this book you will the taste of few of the concepts backed with easy to do activities making Samkhya concepts relevant to life. Samkhya study is misunderstood as being for only those who have resigned the world, thus there are only few serious seekers others may take it up to look intelligent and enjoy arm chair discussion with its jargon. This book is designed based on direct learning experience of the author from the Samkhya Yogi, Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra (1928-2018). This book is the work of love for the teaching of Samkhya to common people, householders with all routine responsibilities leading a busy life. It is written by a common person with all house and work responsibilities. Having experienced the goodness of the Samkhya concepts in one's own life it seemed only natural dharma to pass on to others. While teaching the subject to the Yoga Teachers Training class and devising new activities every time a new challenge is faced by any ardent student of Samkhya the book took shape. Thus the practical nature of the book and its approach to the subject is unique and new. Hearty congratulations for writing this, much needed, book on Samkhya. I like the new way of presentation of the traditional Samkhya concepts in a more contemporary and easily understandable format. The enquiry form presented in the book can generate a lot of interest as the concepts have been brought down to a level of our everyday practical concerns and one can easily relate with them. The relevance of the original concepts and their truth is beyond any doubt but due to their subtleness and logical analysis involved not many are willing to put the necessary effort to understand and benefit from them. This difficulty can be greatly removed with the approach of relating them to every day life which may give impetus to deeper inquiry. One can easily see the benefits one can get from reading this book and doing the exercises suggested. Many self created obstacles can be overcome and one cn grow in self understanding and in dealing with the world from the methods provided in the book.I suggest you to work on a much enlarged and comprehensive work on Samkhya covering all the major concepts of Samkhya Karika of Ishvara Krishna.Best Wishes. - Niranjan Gogia, Senior Faculty at The Yoga Institute and University of MumbaiIt shakes you out of stupor. Amazing exercises. If one does just these their life will remain on track and one will rise to the next level. Excellent work done. Will make my students of Samkhya class also use it. Best wishes for more such work to you. - Dr. Taruna Kardak, Practicing Homeopathy and Yoga Teacher.
