Madison Washington, o escravo, consegue embarcar secretamente para o Canadá, mas regressa os Estados Unidos para salvar a sua esposa da escravatura e é novamente apanhado. Devolvido ao mercado de escravos, embarca num navio negreiro onde acaba por liderar uma revolta.
