Thornwood's Gold follows Allen Temple, a young cooper's son from the quiet village of Harrington, whose life is upended when he discovers that his family's past is entangled with a ruthless pirate captain named Jack Thornwood. What begins as a seemingly ordinary Market Day in Monk's Harbor spirals into a perilous journey filled with betrayal, buried treasure, and the haunting legacy of a pirate crew long thought gone.
The Past That Won't Stay Buried
The story opens with a chilling scene: Allen and his family are forced by Thornwood's men to dig up a grave-Allen's own name carved into the headstone, along with the date February 29, 1716.
It can't be! It can't be real! he cries out...
This moment sets the tone for the entire novel: mystery, danger, and the unsettling realization that Allen's parents, James and Margaret Temple, have been hiding a dark secret for six years.
A Pirate Crew Reemerges
Thornwood's gang-Patch, Samuel Beard, Ben Dagger, Juan Lindo-are not simple grave robbers. They are former pirates, hardened and volatile, each with their own grudges and loyalties. Their sudden return forces the Temple family into a confrontation with a past they hoped was buried.
Patch, the rum-soaked drifter Allen meets at Monk's Harbor, is revealed to be more than a harmless storyteller. His tales of pirate ships and sea battles foreshadow the truth: he once sailed with Thornwood, and his reappearance is no coincidence.
A World Beyond Harrington
Allen's longing for adventure-expressed during his conversation with Patch-becomes a cruel twist of fate.
Nothing exciting ever happens where I come from.
He soon learns that excitement comes with a price. The Temple family is dragged into a dangerous hunt for something hidden beneath that grave-something Thornwood claims is fittingly mine.
The story expands into:
- Kidnappings and rescues
- Hidden treasure and coded clues
- Shifting alliances among pirates
- Ambushes, battles, and impossible odds
- A final confrontation that tests loyalty, courage, and family bonds
The narrative blends classic pirate adventure with family drama, creating a story where every character carries secrets-and every secret carries consequences.
The writing evokes classic seafaring tales-Treasure Island, Kidnapped, The Sea Wolf-but with a more intimate focus on one family's entanglement with pirates. The dialogue is vivid, the characters colorful, and the pacing steadily escalates from curiosity to danger to full adventure.
