by Gabriele Petrucci This manual was created to offer percussionists an innovative learning tool, in which the piano plays a central role in the study process: the piano is used not only for its historical importance, but also to help develop a more conscious, clear, and well-structured musical approach.
The method is based on the teaching approach of Gabriele Petrucci and on the idea of using the physical and musical principles of the piano to understand, analyze, and build musical gesture. This idea comes from the close connection between piano and percussion: the technical principles presented in this work are also deeply influenced by the teaching of Peter Prommel, an internationally active percussionist and teacher, whose musical thinking has strongly shaped the author's approach to study, interpretation, and percussion education.
In this context, the piano becomes an essential tool for understanding movement, harmony, and the formal structure of musical pieces, supporting the development of interpretation, improves performance quality, and helps build true musical awareness.
Study is seen not only as technical training, but as an active process of listening, reflection, and musical understanding. The method includes technical instructions, practical exercises, and musical reflections, with special attention to listening skills, rhythmic accuracy, memorization, and independent study of the repertoire.
