The Elizabeth Rose books are a series of life stories for early readers who are ready for a little more than the basics. Each book takes the reader along to see life through the eyes of Elizabeth Rose, a bright an inquisitive girl, as she encounters the wonders of just being a kid. Each title is written and illustrated by the multi-talented Kathryn Peters, and designed to be familiar, humorous, and memorable. Themes include family, growing, learning, and exploration. Elizabeth Rose and her family have experiences that, while possibly familiar to many readers, often have fun twists at the end (or even along the way). Parents may recognize memories of their own childhood experiences, providing a foundation for sharing with their own children.
Teachers and learning coordinators will find Elizabeth Rose's curiosity and insight to be helpful in drawing out reluctant early readers and confirmed bookworms alike. Real-world experiences through the eyes of the young help everyone appreciate their own humanity.
In A Pet for Elizabeth Rose, the first in the series, Elizabeth Rose is given the opportunity to have a pet--the only problem is sorting out what kind of pet will be appropriate and preferred, in her opinion. It's a fun read-along that children can enjoy over and over, and the ending often delights younger readers every time it's encountered.
