کلیله و دمنه یکی از برجسته]ترین و شناخته]شده]ترین آثار نوشته]شده در زبان فارسی است. به]خصوص کلیله و دمنه ابوالمعالی نصرالله بن محمد بن عبدالحمید منشی معروف که جز اینکه کتاب شناخته]شده]ای است، خوشبختانه از حوادث روزگار و دستبرد غافلان و کاتبان و نسخه]نویسان ناشی مصون مانده و به ما رسیده است. البته اشکالی که در بسیاری از متون است، در این اثر نیز کمابیش وجود دارد. به دلیل قدمت سال]ها گویش به زبان عربی، ساختار زبان عربی بر فارسی تأثیر گذاشته و در واقع در برخی از این نوشته]ها یا اغلب آنها، اگرچه کلمات فارسی است، ولی جمله]بندی و دستور زبان عربی است. این نکته در آثار بزرگی مانند تاریخ طبری، قابوسنامه، تاریخ ناصری معروف به تاریخ بیهقی، زین]الاخبار، تألیفات تاریخ سیستان و ناصر خسرو نیز وجود دارد. با این همه، کلیله و دمنه نسبت به بسیاری از این متون از نثر بهتری برخوردار است
