Amir is ten years old, and he holds his worn, chewed pencil like a sword. He doesn't have a school, a teacher, or even a notebook - but he has a dream: to teach. Every morning before dawn, he practises letters from a torn page his mother hides under her mattress. Every afternoon, he sits beneath the fig tree with his eight-year-old sister Amira and turns the world into a classroom.
Then other children begin to gather. They want to learn too. Stones become counters for maths. Sticks trace lines and angles in the dirt. And the one pencil passes from hand to hand, leaving steady black marks on scraps of paper - and quiet marks on the heart of an entire village.
When Elder Rahim witnesses what a boy and a single pencil have started, he calls the community together. Families bring wood, mud, and thatch. They give time, food, and hope. And together, they build something none of them could have built alone: a school.
