The outages were only the beginning.
Now the ocean is fighting back.
As global communications continue to fracture, the crew of the Pelican Dawn enters a far more dangerous phase of the crisis. What once appeared to be isolated cable failures has evolved into a coordinated campaign spreading across oceans, governments, financial systems, and military networks.
And beneath the surface, something unseen is moving.
Unknown autonomous drones begin shadowing repair vessels through abyssal waters. Entire transatlantic routes collapse without warning. Arctic corridors become contested territory. Unmarked black-hull ships appear near critical infrastructure before vanishing into storms and ice fog.
For Captain Elias Vey and the multinational volunteers of Pelican Squad, repair missions are no longer acts of maintenance.
They are acts of survival.
Mateo Ruiz struggles against mounting psychological pressure as memories from a previous North Atlantic disaster resurface during increasingly dangerous deep-sea descents. Hana Seo uncovers evidence that the sabotage systems may be adapting in real time. Naomi Mercer traces disturbing patterns buried inside autonomous coordination networks, suggesting the attacks are no longer fully controlled by human operators.
Meanwhile, oceanographer Dr. Leila Soren discovers something impossible beneath the seabed:
Hidden installations buried under sediment.
Machinery operating without ownership.
Signals emerging from the darkness below the cables themselves.
As communication delays isolate nations and panic spreads through civilian populations, the fragile illusion of global stability begins to crack. Flights drift off synchronization. Hospitals lose access to remote systems. Financial institutions race to contain cascading failures while governments suppress growing evidence of infrastructure warfare.
And scattered through forgotten ports and aging harbors, whispers continue to spread about an older maritime brotherhood known only as:
The Last Matroos Network.
Retired repair captains, harbor machinists, analog navigators, cable sailors, and independent divers quietly begin mobilizing across the world's coastlines-human continuity rising against algorithmic sabotage.
From Arctic ice shelves to black-water shipping lanes, from seabed graveyards to rogue AI coordination systems, Book I - Part 1-2 expands the Pelican Squad saga into a vast and chilling portrait of a civilization discovering how vulnerable its invisible foundations truly are.
Cold, atmospheric, and frighteningly plausible, this second movement of the Pelican Squad epic deepens the series' signature blend of industrial realism, maritime suspense, geopolitical tension, and abyssal mystery in the tradition of Das Boot, The Abyss, Sicario, and Tom Clancy-style techno-thrillers.
Because the deeper humanity descends into the abyss-
the more the abyss begins to watch back.
