In order to reduce VOC emissions and meet user requirements, manufacturers are focusing on improving water-based paints. During this project, the particle size distribution of calcium carbonates in a water-based paint was investigated with the aim of improving the paint's final opacity. To this end, various formulations were prepared and, in each case, the wet and dry hiding powers were investigated and compared with the results of the dry coating's other performance characteristics. The best hiding powers (92 per cent) were found with CPVs higher than the CPVC.
