Fred is a Jack Russell Terrier. He goes places. Usually he takes Ian with him.

Mr. Calloway has been Ian's next-door neighbor Ian's whole life. He has a biscuit in his pocket whenever he's in the yard. Fred has gotten one every time they've walked past. Three years of walks.

Now there's a FOR SALE sign. In three weeks, Mr. Calloway will be gone. Whoever moves in next will be Fred's new back-gate neighbor. They might not know about the biscuits. They might not know about Gerald the cat, or the speed limit sign that's mostly behind a bush, or any of it.

Ian had a plan. His best friend Jade had two instructions. She was very clear about the second one.

Ian followed one of them.

Honestly, Ian: Open House is a chapter book about real estate, back gates, and what happens when a nine-year-old takes his responsibilities as a neighbor very seriously. For readers ages 8-10 who like dogs, evidence, and characters who say what they actually think.
