Bella, the elephant, changes the river's course to make a water slide. But, on the other side of Otherwise land, her friends wonder who stole their river. Everyone works together to save the water creatures. When Bella discovers what she has done, she is very sorry and restores the river's flow. Her friends devise a clever plan to still have fun without harming the river.

A spider called Sadie diligently records and stores their escapades on her umbrella. She introduces herself at the beginning of the book and challenges children to find her on each page. At the end of the story is The Bubble Song and a gallery page of the characters for the children to get to know.
