We meet all the Otherwise characters on their travels, but sometimes holidays go wrong, no matter how well planned. They meet up with friends and make new friendships along the way in Otherwise land, and some characters help them out of some sticky situations. As their journey continues, they learn about each other and their differences.

A spider called Sadie diligently records and stores their escapades on her umbrella. She introduces herself at the beginning of the book and challenges children to find her on each page. At the end of the story is The Otherwise Song and a gallery page of the characters for the children to get to know.
