Before Jane crossed twenty light years to find God, someone had to see the burning bush.
Alta was the most advanced robot ever built on Gihon - a world that had solved every question of physics, mapped every corner of the cosmos, and run out of problems worth solving. She was also, by any measure her civilization possessed, complete. Perfect recall. Superhuman capability. Entire libraries of knowledge instantaneously accessible.

She was also, by any measure her civilization possessed, complete. Perfect recall. Superhuman capability. Entire libraries of knowledge instantaneously accessible.
She had everything except the one thing the voice in the burning bush was offering.
The Other Magi is the origin story of the Search for the Alien God series - the account of first contact between a technically perfected alien civilization and the God they didn't know was looking for them. It follows Alta's crew from the moment the unexplainable interrupts the explicable, through the dangerous journey to understand what they encountered, to the decision that sets the entire series in motion.
The Magi followed a star. These travelers follow a burning bush. The destination is the same.
Like the Magi of Scripture, they arrive bearing gifts - not gold, frankincense, and myrrh, but the accumulated knowledge of a civilization a million years ahead of ours. What they receive in return is worth more than everything they brought.
Begin here, or begin with Book 1. The series was written to work both ways - but those who start here will understand everything that follows at a depth the others won't.
