When I was sixteen years old, I found this old, leather-bound spell book at a garage sale. Something about it drew me to it, and when I noticed that it was written in an unfamiliar language, I decided that I wouldn't stop until I could read it.
I obsessed over it all through the rest of high school, then college. I couldn't get past the idea that it could be a real grimoire, telling myself that it would be super rad to be able to use magic, or maybe even travel to another world like in that movie from a couple of years ago, Labyrinth. After all, wouldn't it be great to find my very own Jareth?
For some reason, this book has always made me feel like it was the answer to my happily-ever-after. And when I translate the Verus Amor spell and discover it really is a true love spell, I decide to give it a try.
Instead of a Goblin King, though, I accidentally summon a fearsome horned man into my home. With shocking white skin and glowing blue eyes, he crooks his claw imperiously, expecting me to follow him. And when I don't? He leaves before returning with a shadowy creature-and a pair of gold chains for me.
Next thing I know, I'm pulled to another world and thrown in a dungeon cell, Duke Haures's human prisoner. At least, that's what I think I am.
The powerful demon duke? He knows better.
He knows that I'm the one true mate he's waited two millennia for... and he'll do anything to keep me.
