In the year 2047 Dave is an astronaut living alone on the moon base when a nuclear war occurs on the earth down below wiping out all life on the planet and trapping him alone on the moon as the last surviving human being after the apocalypse. As Dave tries to cope with his loneliness and isolation on the moon he retreats into simulated reality, reliving memories of his life on earth with his late wife, with his only companion on the moon an artificial intelligence named Sally, who runs the moon base and may have plans of her own for Dave that are contrary to what he desires as she begins to develop self-awareness and a desire to experience what being human is like, which could mean the difference between life and death for Dave.
