When Ranger Oz Nightingale comes upon a body at a construction site, his first reaction is that the death appears suspicious; his second is to take over the investigation. When the governor calls him to investigate billionaire Edgar Post, it's not long before his instincts tell him the man might have a connection to the suspicious death. His cousins, Portia and Imogene, had known (and liked) the dead man; they agree he was murdered but have nothing to go on except a feeling. Two things bother Nightingale: no one seems to have cared about the dead man-and Edgar Post may have a connection to him, a connection Post vehemently denies. As Nightingale delves into Post's background, he uncovers the tangled threads of a life lived by a ruthless man who lets nothing get in his way. Ultimately, the two-pronged investigation forces Nightingale to choose between saving his cousin's life-or the governor's.
