On a windy road, tucked in between lush forests and wide fields, is Kirklees Priory, a small monastery where nothing of importance ever happens. Sister Roana has lived here all her life, but years of pressure to become the perfect nun, along with her hunger for exploration, has left her discontented with monastic life. Late one night, a handsome, wounded squire comes to the priory. He is Robert, the heir to the earldom of Lancaster. Already feeling disillusioned by her faith, Roana is defenceless against his charm and courage. When he leaves to reunite with his uncle, the earl, she decides to abandon her life as a nun and follows him.
But Roana is thrown into the intrigue of an unknown world, a world where violence is a way of life, the strong abuses the weak, greed has corrupted faith, and violence destroy love. She soon learns she cannot rely on her feelings for Robert, for her free-spiritedness and his sense of morality blight the bond between them, and she finds herself torn between two very different lifestyles, in a kingdom that is quickly crumbling beneath her feet.
'A captivating story about a young nun forced to face the hardship of a war-torn England. An action-filled story set in the sprawling medieval canvas of the fourteenth century, with complex and engaging characters containing a high degree of realistic, but dubious moral choices thrust upon them. This story really reminds the reader that a single decision can change your future.'
