NEW EARTH: The Sedna/Kern Incident is the final installment of the NEW EARTH trilogy; it opens with the world facing the threat of total devastation. In America Alex Hanken is once again thrust to the forefront to institute a post-event survival strategy for the United States...if there are survivors. Pittman approaches the final episodes of the story in a departure from the standard storyline; he places the reader inside the lives of people from all over the world as they struggle to deal with the terror, the dread, and the desperation gripping their lives. As a society begins to unravel, rational thinking gives way to base survival instincts, the inhumanity of man rises from its primordial beginnings. Those survival instincts drive some to commit acts contrary to a civilized society; the predatory side of human nature is exposed. All of mankind awaits its fate while hanging precariously by a thin thread of hope. Pittman places the reader there experiencing the entire gamut of human emotions, the sadness of remorse, the doubt and confusion that follows chaos, the tender moments between people when faced with the inevitable, anger at a fate not of their choosing, the heroics right up to the climactic end as time runs out. Will man survive this inhuman, soulless entity menacing the earth? Read the captivating story and you will find out if the human species survives and emerges from the rubble...or disappears forever.
