Despite her age, eighty seven year old Nancy is a very fit woman. She is the latest resident in The Lodge, an upmarket retirement home in an Essex village close to Constable Country. Initially, she is popular, sociable and engaging. However, there is another side go her. Anyone showing a casual interest in her private life gets a very frosty response. Many find this intense secrecy off-putting so now give her a wide berth. She is seen as a mystery woman.
Early every morning, she briskly walks around the spacious grounds and is always first at breakfast. There, she is joined by her two friends: Doris and Grace. This particular morning she is not there. Shock! Where is she?
She is found dead on her bed fully clothed with her arms crossed over her body. It is an unexpected death. It seems suspicious. The post mortem confirms she has been smothered. It's a murder!
Who could have done it? There are many potential suspects: an estranged son, an unknown son suddenly emerging out of the blue, two step-daughters of her third husband and all the staff and residents at The Lodge. Unravelling her enigmatic life to solve the crime proves a huge challenge to the detectives on the case.
