My Sister Rides a Harley is a humorous and heartfelt memoir about family, friendship, motorcycles, and rediscovering the joy of life.
John is approaching forty and overwhelmed by financial and family problems when his adventurous younger sister, Maria, talks him into joining her and their friend David on a two-week motorcycle trip from Los Angeles to the legendary Sturgis Rally in South Dakota.
What begins as a reluctant escape quickly becomes the adventure of a lifetime. Along the way, the three riders encounter mechanical breakdowns, unexpected kindness from strangers, questionable sleeping arrangements, plenty of sibling teasing, and some of America's most spectacular scenery, including the Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, Glacier, and Zion.
As the miles pass, John begins to realize that the journey is changing him. He learns to worry less, appreciate the people around him, and rediscover the carefree spirit he thought he had lost.
At its heart, My Sister Rides a Harley is more than a motorcycle story. It is a funny, touching journey about a brother and sister, the freedom of the open road, and learning that sometimes the best way to find yourself is to simply keep riding.
John passed away in 2012. His family is proud to share this story in his memory and preserve his humor, spirit, and love.
