After a painful divorce, Lena Marlowe returns to the quiet town of Briar Glen hoping to rebuild her life one batch of muffins at a time. Reopening her late grandmother's beloved bakery, The Copper Kettle, should be a fresh start filled with flour dust, warm ovens, and second chances.
But during the annual Briar Glen Muffin Fair, Lena's new beginning curdles into disaster.
Sharp tongued food blogger and festival judge Silas Vane is found dead in her bakery pantry, and the murder weapon is her own heavy cast iron muffin tin. With her fingerprints on the tin and a public argument with Silas still fresh in everyone's mind, Lena quickly becomes the town's favorite suspect.
Determined to clear her name and save her grandmother's bakery, Lena starts digging into the secrets Silas left behind. The more she uncovers, the clearer it becomes that his death was about more than one cruel review. Someone in Briar Glen had something to hide, and Silas may have been close to exposing it.
With gossip rising like overproofed dough and danger creeping closer to her kitchen door, Lena must separate truth from small town lies before the killer strikes again.
Because in Briar Glen, some recipes are worth killing for.
