Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. 1945. Fifteen-year-old Alice is determined to break out of poverty and lead a successful life on her own, in spite of her low vision and a culture seeking to keep her in her place. Terrified of ending up like her mother, Alice doesn't trust anyone, especially not a man. Until she meets Carl, a boy in her class who makes her laugh. In time, she cannot imagine life without him.

Carl wants only to get an education, travel, and carry on his family name. Until he meets the enchanting Alice. On the brink of achieving their dreams, Alice receives a devastating diagnosis that plunges her future into dark uncertainty and forces Carl to make decisions he never thought he'd have to face.

Make the Day is a heartfelt novel by Kathryn A. Frazier, based on an incredible true-life story. If you like stepping back in time to immerse yourself in the everyday lives of real historical people, then you'll love this captivating journey of resilience, hope, and living in the moment.
