In 1968, the country was in total chaos. There were war demonstrations and sit ins on college campuses and in the streets. Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated and so was Robert Kennedy. It was like someone had determined that the year 1968 was appointed to be a year to be remembered for all the crazy stuff that happened. The military was drafting high school graduates as fast as they could grab their diploma. This book is a fictional account based on facts concerning three young men facing decisions following high school in 1968. Joe was given a scholarship to play baseball so his decision was made. Matt and Mike, Joe's very close friends, were not so fortunate. They were faced with the decision to wait on or wait out the draft, enlist or run to Canada like many other young men chose to do. The two young men chose to enlist in the Marines and would end up in Vietnam. Joe would play college baseball on his way to a Major League contract. This book follows the events which take place in each of their lives over the next two years. It wasn't exactly a great time to be a young man graduating from high school and not being able to enroll in college or obtain a deferment to military duty. For some families it was heartbreak and for others, it was business as usual. Follow the lives of these three young men to learn the contrast in what they experience and see how their future turns out.
