Music and Civilization is an in-depth non-fiction work that examines music as a fundamental component of human civilization, education, and cultural identity. The book traces the origins of music from prehistoric societies through ancient civilizations, including Mesopotamian, Greek, Roman, and Islamic cultures, highlighting the scientific, philosophical, and social dimensions of musical expression.
The author explores music as a universal language governed by mathematical and physical principles, while also emphasizing its emotional, educational, and psychological impact on individuals and societies. Significant attention is given to the relationship between music and education, the formation of musical taste, and the positive and negative effects of music on human behavior and health.
A substantial portion of the book is dedicated to documenting the history and evolution of music and singing in the Arabian Peninsula, with a detailed analysis of the Saudi musical renaissance. The author presents a systematic overview of musical movements across different regions of Saudi Arabia and profiles major pioneers and influential figures who shaped modern Saudi music.
Combining historical research, cultural criticism, and analytical insight, this book serves as both a reference work and a reflective study on the role of music in shaping civilizations and preserving cultural heritage.
