A classic novel from a founding author of the socialist realism movement, Maxim Gorky's Mother follows the story of a family in pre-revolutionary Russia. The titular Mother, Pelageya Nilovna Vlasova, lives with and raises her son, Pavel Vlasov. When her husband dies unexpectedly, her son begins to follow the path of the revolutionary, associating himself with other revolutionaries and bringing revolutionary literature home. Although initially suspicious, soon Vlasova becomes involved herself in the revolutionary struggle, joining her son in agitating against the Czarist regime.
A new edition by J.T. Marsh, this novel has been edited to include a foreword and for greater readability to the modern reader. This is an original edition, released in order to commemorate the socialist realism aesthetic and help disseminate it as an historical artefact for a new generation.
