Looking back at the content of Montessori's first work The discovery of the child, we can see in A Montessori Mother a series of common themes that Fisher takes up from the Italian pedagogist. Fisher appreciates the method completely adhering to it and writes his book presenting the key points of this new way of doing education, which she will also export in family life, wanting to be a Montessori mother herself.
Through a comparative analysis of A Montessori mother with The child in the family of Maria Montessori, we can see points of commonality and difference. Both authors make an invitation to the adults, and in particular to the parents, to become aware of the role played by the child. No longer considering himself or herself as the builder of the child's psychic life, the adult must simply be his guardian, and guide the child towards autonomous self-building.
Although Montessori declared that she was familiar with Fisher's study, she never admitted this sort of debt, and yet Fisher's contribution to Montessori's family pedagogy is evident.
