My son was diagnosed with Asperger's Autism and my daughter was diagnosed with Mood Disorder NOS (Not Otherwise Specified), but I feel this book is universal and will aid in understanding any developmental disorder or mood disorder. Topics that are discussed include: Doctors Family Counselors Alternative Medicine Diagnosis Spiritual Guidance Medications Transition to Adulthood School Resources Psychiatric Hospitals Being the parent of a child with special needs is difficult. You are your child's advocate; they cannot advocate for themselves. This book is a guide to show not only techniques I used, but resources I found through the years. Hopefully by my sharing this information, you can benefit from it or find other avenues to answer questions and find support. We have a choice: we can either laugh about it or cry about it. I have always chosen to laugh about it. Even when I was most hurt, lonely, and confused, I always found some humor in it. So this book will reflect this view. My sense of humor is sharp; some say it borders on sarcasm. My hope is that as you read on I will be able to get you to laugh, to experience a disconnect from the seriousness of the situation at hand, to find something hilarious in a topic that is anything from funny.
