You are not simply hearing the story of the Mayflower. You are making the crossing.
The Mayflower Crossing: An Interactive Voyage of Survival and Hope is an immersive one-person theatrical experience that places the audience aboard the Mayflower in 1620 as part of the company attempting one of history's most famous Atlantic crossings.
From the moment the voyage begins, the audience becomes part of the journey.
What would you carry if you could take only one chest? Would you leave England knowing you might never return? When food begins running low, do you ration immediately or wait? What happens when a violent storm cracks one of the ship's great supporting beams? And when the company finally reaches land outside the place it expected to settle, how will more than one hundred people govern themselves?
Throughout the performance, willing audience members help represent the cramped passenger quarters, assist during the emergency repair of the damaged beam, experience the story of John Howland's near-fatal fall into the Atlantic, consider the decisions that led to the Mayflower Compact, determine survival priorities after landfall, and confront the terrible losses of the first winter.
But this is not a romanticized story of flawless heroes.
The production explores fear, faith, disagreement, hardship, survival, difficult choices, and the reality that the English passengers arrived in a land where Indigenous peoples already had communities, histories, and political worlds of their own.
Near the end of the journey, the Passenger invites genuine audience questions. Five prepared questions and full in-character answers are included, while performers may respond spontaneously to additional questions before returning to a scripted conclusion.
Moving, historically grounded, thoughtful, and deeply participatory, The Mayflower Crossing transforms a familiar chapter of American history into an experience the audience must confront from inside the voyage.
