Marquis De Sade: His Life And Works is a biographical account of the infamous French aristocrat, Donatien-Alphonse-Franois de Sade, written by Iwan Bloch. The book delves into the life of the Marquis, exploring his upbringing, his family history, and his controversial sexual proclivities. It also examines his literary works, including his novels Justine, Juliette, and The 120 Days of Sodom, which were considered scandalous and pornographic in their time.Bloch provides a detailed analysis of the Marquis' writing, exploring the themes of sadism, masochism, and sexual violence that are prevalent throughout his work. He also discusses the Marquis' imprisonment and the impact it had on his writing, as well as his eventual release and subsequent exile.Throughout the book, Bloch provides a nuanced and objective view of the Marquis, challenging the popular perception of him as a depraved and immoral figure. Instead, he presents a complex portrait of a man who was deeply troubled, yet also a brilliant writer and thinker.Overall, Marquis De Sade: His Life And Works is a comprehensive and insightful biography that sheds new light on one of the most controversial figures in literary history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
