Marquis De Sade: His Life And Works is a comprehensive biography of the infamous French writer, philosopher, and libertine, the Marquis de Sade. Written by Iwan Bloch, a German physician and sexologist, the book delves into the life and works of the Marquis de Sade, exploring his controversial ideas on sexuality, morality, and the human condition. The book covers the Marquis de Sade's early life, including his privileged upbringing, his education, and his early literary works. It then delves into his adult life, including his imprisonment, his scandalous affairs, and his prolific writing career. The book also explores the Marquis de Sade's philosophy of extreme individualism and his rejection of traditional morality and religion. Throughout the book, Bloch provides detailed analyses of the Marquis de Sade's major works, including Justine, Juliette, and The 120 Days of Sodom. He also examines the cultural and historical context in which these works were written, and the impact they had on literature and society. Marquis De Sade: His Life And Works is a fascinating and insightful study of one of the most controversial figures in European history. It offers a nuanced and complex portrait of the Marquis de Sade, exploring his life, his ideas, and his enduring legacy. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
