Lenin's brother, Aleksandr Ulyanov, had already paid the ultimate price for his attempt to assassinate Tsar Alexander III. Now, as part of an agreement between the Banker and Lenin, the Tsar was to be killed and his family was to be sent to the Kaiser. But Lenin, sensing betrayal, had other plans.
The execution, planned for 1:00 a.m. on July 17, 1918, did not go as intended. In a twist of fate, Maria and her brother Alexei managed to survive with the help of a mysterious young prince whom Maria had met at a prom in Romania.
